Freeman
also received a special gift from Cacao
Cartel, a Costa Rican chocolate shop. Rachel
Leiderman, the shop’s owner, told local
media that the actor was presented with
chocolates made from pure Costa Rican cacao,
including pieces crafted in various shapes. One
chocolate was molded in the shape of an
Oscar statuette.
“He is
an extremely nice person,” Leiderman said.
“With all his accomplishments, he told me he
had never received a chocolate trophy, so it
was very exciting to be able to give him
something different.”
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1937, Freeman is widely regarded as one of the finest actors of his generation. Over a career spanning more than five decades, he has earned numerous honors, including an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award, as well as a Tony Award nomination.
His
accolades also include the Kennedy Center
Honor, the American Film Institute Life
Achievement Award, the Cecil B. DeMille
Award and the
Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
Freeman
is among many celebrities who have chosen
Costa Rica as a vacation destination. In
January, American actor and director
Justin Baldoni celebrated his birthday
while vacationing in the country with
his family.
Early
January, NBA star Michael Jordan made
his fourth trip to Costa Rica within a
year.
Tourism
remains one of Costa Rica’s strongest
industries. In
2025, the country welcomed more than 2.6
million tourists arriving by air.
In
2024, the tourism sector generated more
than $5.4 billion in foreign exchange
earnings.
