According
to the British government, Roberts joined
the Diplomatic Service in 2019 and has held
various roles in London, most
recently serving as Head of the Joint FCO
Europe Group.
His
previous overseas posting was in Kathmandu,
where he served as Deputy Ambassador from
2019 to 2022, officials added in their
statement.
Roberts
will represent the King and the UK
government in both
Costa Rica and Nicaragua. He will oversee
the direction and work of the embassy and
its consulates, including political affairs,
trade and investment, press and cultural
relations, and consular services.
Roberts is expected to arrive in September 2025 to take command of the embassy following the departure of current Ambassador Ben Lyster-Binns. ![]() Lyster-Binns has served as the UK’s ambassador since November 2020. Costa Rica and the United Kingdom have maintained bilateral relations for over 175 years. Diplomatic ties were officially established in 1848, shortly after Costa Rica declared itself an independent republic. The two nations have since collaborated in areas such as trade, education, environmental conservation, and human rights.
