Former NBA player Emanuel "Manu" Ginóbili is in Costa Rica to participate in a sports event in Guanacaste Province.

The Argentine basketball legend and four-time NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs arrived in the country on Sunday, March 9, according to the General Directorate for Migration.

Ginóbili, 47, participated in the i3x3 Madness 2025 tournament that was held on Sunday at the Tempisque Park Recreation Center in Carrillo Canton.

A frequent visitor to Costa Rica, Ginóbili has entered the country three times in 2024, the migration records show.

Widely credited with popularizing the Euro step in the NBA, Ginóbili is regarded as one of the greatest shooting guards and sixth men in league history. He is also considered the best Latin American player and one of the greatest draft steals in NBA history.

Beyond his NBA success, Ginóbili led Argentina to a gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, earning FIBA Olympic MVP honors for his performance.

Ginóbili is one of many celebrities who have vacationed in Costa Rica. Recently, Michael Jordan, the iconic NBA star, returned to Costa Rica for the third time this year to the country.

In February, Morgan Freeman, the iconic American actor and producer, visited Costa Rica for the second time in less than three months.

In December 2024, Israeli actress Gal Gadot and Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen also visited the country.

Also, Canadian singer Justin Bieber, his wife and model Hailey Bieber, and influencer Kendall Jenner visited the country in December 2024.

In 2024, Costa Rica also achieved foreign exchange earnings from the sector exceeding $5.4 billion, according to data from the Central Bank of Costa Rica.

Tourism is a key sector of Costa Rica's economy. The country welcomed over 2.6 million tourists by air in 2024, a 7% increase compared to 2023.
