Delta Air Lines,
the Atlanta-based carrier, is launching
a new nonstop route between the United
States and Costa Rica, according to the
Tourism Institute (ICT). The new service
will begin Dec. 19, just ahead of the
country's peak tourism season,
connecting Daniel Oduber Quirós
International Airport (LIR) in Guanacaste
Province with John F. Kennedy
International Airport (JFK) in New York.
U.S. According to
Delta, flights from Guanacaste will
depart every Saturday at 7:30 a.m. local
time and arrive in New York at 2:30 p.m.
Eastern Time.
The
return flight will depart JFK at 3:35 p.m.
local time and arrive at LIR at 5:35 p.m.
Costa Rica time.
Delta
currently operates flights between LIR and
several major U.S. hubs, including Atlanta,
Boston, Minneapolis and Detroit Metropolitan
Wayne County Airport (DTW).
Additional
information about schedules and bookings
is available on Delta's website.
Delta is one of several airlines expanding service to Costa Rica. Earlier this week, Texas-based Southwest Airlines announced a new route connecting Tennessee with Guanacaste.
Tourism
remains one of Costa Rica’s strongest
industries. Data from the Tourism
Institute shows that more than 1
million tourists arrived in Costa Rica
by air during the first quarter of
2026.
In 2025, the country
welcomed more than 2.6 million
tourists arriving by air.
The
ICT is the government agency responsible
for promoting tourism in Costa Rica.
