Retail fuel prices in Costa Rica have been reduced across all fuel products, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), according to the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep).

The price adjustment follows a request from the Costa Rican Oil Refinery, known as Recope, which sought to align domestic fuel prices with recent movements in international markets.

The regulatory authority said the new rates reflect decreases in several components calculated at the time fuel imports were negotiated between Dec. 12, 2025, and Jan. 8, 2026. Those factors include international oil prices, taxes, import costs and the exchange rate.

 

Updated prices:

  

• Super Gasoline (RON 95): ₡626 per liter, down from ₡636, about $1.25 per liter or $4.72 per gallon.

• Regular Gasoline (RON 91 / Plus 91): ₡591 per liter, down from ₡609, roughly $1.18 per liter or $4.46 per gallon.

• Diesel: ₡512 per liter, down from ₡541, about $1 per liter or $3.78 per gallon.

• Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), 25-pound cylinder: ₡6,794, down from ₡6,879, about $13.58 each.

The new prices took effect on Monday after being published in the official government bulletin, La Gaceta.
 
Aresep, the government regulatory agency, is responsible for setting public service rates in Costa Rica.
 
Recope,  the state-owned oil company, manages the importation, distribution and sale of fuels.
