Campaign to attract tourism
to Turrialba Canton

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

The Turrialba Chamber of Tourism, CATUR, developed an advertising campaign, in Spanish and English languages, to attract tourism to this canton located in Cartago Province.

The main attraction in the place has been for years the Turrialba Volcano which has experienced eruptive episodes since 2014. Visitors used to be able to hike down into the main crater, but increased volcanic activity, resulting in large clouds of volcanic ash, has caused the surrounding Turrialba Volcano National Park to close.

Regarding the campaign made by the Chamber members, as entrepreneurs, farmers, tourist guides, actors, musicians, poets and singers, it shows videos of tourist attractions such as the volcano, Guayabo National Monument, Pejibaye and Pacuare rivers, Espino Blanco biological reserve, CATIE Botanical Garden, Florencia sugar cane farm, Aquiares farm coffee farm and horseback tours, among others symbolic places.

The Chamber's goal is to attract sports lovers, promote adventure tourism, the citizen's culture, bird watching among others.

According to Alberto López, Manager of the Institute of Tourism, campaigns of this type proves the entrepreneurial spirit of the tourism sector, in addition to the fact that tourism companies "are on the right track, maintaining sanitary measures, generating confidence in national and foreign visitors, in addition to the display of the beauties of the country."

The chamber is also developing a program of marketing strategies for tour operators, intending to promote Turrialba as a tourist destination that provides mental health to visitors.

Thanks to this campaign, hotels and tour operators have reported an increase in reservations, the CATUR said .

The video campaign can be found on the Chamber Facebook page.
