$600,000-plus paid in insurance for
workers infected with covid-19

Since the beginning of the declared pandemic in March, there have been 4,749 cases of insurance policy claims from workers infected with covid-19, reported the Institute of Insurance.

According to the institute, the total paid to Social Security for the care of workers infected with covid is approximately $601,475.

Of the 4,749 insurance claims, 413 were declined and 349 are under investigation, the institute said.

Insurance claims have been increasing. For example, of the total claims, just in August and September, health insurance paid out 3,987 workers who were infected with covid-19, after the boss demonstrated the relationship between work and contagion.

In Costa Rica, due to the Declaration of National Health Emergency in response to the pandemic, covid-19 patients are also treated in Social Security hospitals and clinics for free. All patients accepted, even if they do not have a work policy for covering the health treatment expenses.

The covid-19 virus continues to spread, causing deaths in the country. The Ministry of Health reported on Thursday the following statistics::

1,331 new covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 32,006 active cases.

14,735 foreign-born people have been infected with a total of 84,828 cases since March, approximately 17.3% of the total cases. Of these, authorities confirmed the death of 32 foreign-born patients.

• 568 patients are being treated in public hospitals, where 197 patients are in ICU’s in delicate health conditions (ages range from a 1-year-old baby to an 89-year-old person). And 371 patients are in recovery rooms. The majority of the rest of the infected patients are quarantined in their homes.

• 51,782 coronavirus patients have fully recovered, which is a 61% recovery rate of the total cases since March.

• 150,471 people have been ruled out.

• 251,285 medical covid-19 tests have been made.

1,040 deaths of people infected with covid-19, approximately 1.2% death rate of the total cases since March. Of these 392 were women and 648 men. The ages range from 18 to a 100-year-old person.

As of Thursday night, the pandemic has killed 1,060,773 patients worldwide, according to recent statistics reported by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
