Güity
competed in the T64 classification, which
includes athletes with leg amputations who
compete in sprint events.
According
to the Sports Institute (ICODER),
Güity secured his first gold medal on
Saturday in the 100-meter dash, clocking
in at 11.03 seconds at the Pedro Grajales
National Stadium in Cali.
He
captured his second gold on Sunday in the
200-meter race, also in the T64 category,
with a time of 22.35 seconds, again at the
same venue.
The Cali Para Athletics Grand Prix is part of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix series, organized by World Para Athletics in conjunction with the Colombian Federation of Para Athletics. The 2025 edition, held from May 13 to 19, marks the first time Colombia has hosted the event.
As a key stop on
the international Grand Prix circuit,
this competition provides crucial
preparation for para-athletes ahead of major events like the
World Championships and the Paralympic
Games. This year’s Grand Prix
features 243 athletes from 18 countries
and plays a significant role in the qualification
pathway for the Los Angeles 2028
Paralympic Games. Güity has an
impressive track record. In 2024, he made
history as the first Costa Rican to
win two gold medals at the Paris
Paralympic Games. In 2023, he also won
two gold medals at the Para Athletics
Grand Prix in the United Arab
Emirates. Earlier, in 2021,
he took home gold at the Tokyo
Paralympic Games. Born on December
3, 1996, in Costa Rica’s Limón Province,
Güity showed talent from an early age,
particularly in track events at the
National Sports Games. His athletic
career faced a major challenge in
August 2017, when a car accident
resulted in the loss of part of his left
leg. Despite the setback, he remained
dedicated to sports throughout his
recovery. Today, Güity
specializes in the 100 and 200-meter
races for athletes with disabilities and
continues to symbolize perseverance and
excellence. His latest
victories contribute to Costa Rica’s growing presence
in international athletics. Recently, cyclist
Andrey Amador also brought pride to
the country by winning the Titan
Desert of Morocco, a demanding
multi-stage race through the North
African desert.
