Costa
Rican athlete Sherman Güity-Güity continues
to achieve new historical records. On
Saturday, he won his second gold medal in
the final of the T64 200-meter sprint at the
Paris 2024 Paralympic Games,
taking place in
France.
Güity
participated in the T64 category, which
includes athletes who compete in speed and
have had a leg amputated.
Sherman
ran in lane 6 reaching a
record of 21.32 seconds at the Stadium of
Paris. His rivals Levi Vloet from the
Netherlands finished in second place,
clocking in at 22.47 seconds, and Mpumelelo
Mhlongo from South Africa came in third with
22.62 seconds, announced the Institute of
Sports.
This is the second gold medal achieved by Güity the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. On Monday he set a record of 10.65 seconds winning his first gold medal in the games.
In
2021, Güity won a gold medal in the
Tokyo Paralympic World Games.
Güity
was born in Limón Province on December
3, 1996. Since a very
young age, he has stood out in racing
competitions at the National Sports Games.
However,
in August 2017, a car crash resulted in
Guity losing part of his left leg. Despite
this circumstance, his dedication and
persistence made him continue to do sports
during his recovery period.
The
Olympic Committee welcomes all Costa
Ricans to support the team by viewing the
competitions. Repretel Channel 6 and 11
will broadcast the Olympics across the
country.
Paris
2024 is the 17th Summer Paralympic Games,
an international multi-sport para-sports
event governed by the International
Paralympic Committee, being held in Paris,
France, from 28
August to
8 September
2024.
