Sherman Güity-Güity, a tico (a term used for a native of Costa Rica) paralympic athlete earned a gold medal in the 100-meter sprint race at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The Costa Rica Paralympic Team, made up of eight athletes, is representing the country in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which is taking place in Paris, France, from August 28 to September 8, 2024.

According to the Institute of Sports, Güity participated in the T64 category, which includes athletes who compete in speed and have had a leg amputated.

Güity set a record of 10.65 seconds. "He was far superior to his rivals, crossing the finish line ahead of Italy and Germany," the institute noted in a statement.

Maxel Manu from Italy finished in second place, clocking in at 10.76 seconds. Johannes Floors from Germany came in third with 10.77 seconds.

Güity won two gold medals at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2023 which was held in the United Arab Emirates.

In 2021, Guity won a gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympic World Games.

Güity was born in Limón Province on December 3, 1996. He has excelled in racing contests at the National Sports Games since he was a child.

He lost part of his left leg in an August 2017 vehicle accident. Despite this, his drive and perseverance led him to continue doing sports during his rehabilitation time.

The award-winning athlete specializes in 100 and 200-meter competitions for athletes with impairments.

The Olympic Committee welcomes all Costa Ricans to support the team by viewing the competitions. Repretel Channel 6 and 11 will broadcast the Olympics across the country.

In the case of the Costa Rican squad's participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics, it was cut short as all its competitors were eliminated.
