By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
On
Wednesday, the Ministry of Public Health
ordered the immediate recall of a popular
Colgate toothpaste after reports of
potential adverse health effects.
The
ministry’s action follows consumer
complaints and aims to prevent possible
reactions, including oral irritation, gum
inflammation, mouth pain, tooth sensitivity,
ulcers, canker sores, boils, and allergic
responses. Officials
noted that symptoms can vary from person to
person and did not identify which ingredient
might be responsible.
Authorities
recommend that anyone
experiencing these
symptoms seek medical
attention. All
supermarkets and retail
stores have been
directed to
remove the toothpaste from
sale. Consumers who have
purchased it should either
return it or dispose of it
safely. For
more information, the
public can contact the
Ministry of Health at
2223-0333. This
recall comes shortly
after health officials
pulled the sexual
enhancement supplement
“Pink Pussycat”
from the market when
laboratory tests found it
contained an undeclared
prescription drug
ingredient linked to
serious health risks. The
Ministry of Public Health
is the government agency
responsible for overseeing
and regulating public and
private healthcare
services in Costa Rica.
