The Ministry of Health has issued an urgent recall for the sexual enhancement supplement “Pink Pussycat” after tests revealed it contains an undeclared prescription drug ingredient that can pose serious health risks.

The product was found to contain tadalafil, a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and pulmonary arterial hypertension. Health officials warn that tadalafil can dangerously interact with nitrates found in some prescription medications,  such as nitroglycerin,  which may cause blood pressure to drop to life-threatening levels. Nitrates are commonly prescribed to people with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease.

Tadalafil may cause headaches, stomach discomfort, indigestion, acid reflux, back pain, muscle aches, facial flushing, nasal congestion, dizziness, swelling in the extremities, fatigue, and urinary or respiratory tract infections. Both diarrhea and constipation have been reported, with diarrhea occurring more often in patients 65 and older. These effects are linked to the drug’s ability to dilate blood vessels and often subside within hours.

Anyone who has takenPink Pussycatand experiences symptoms is urged to seek immediate medical attention at their local clinic or healthcare provider.

The Ministry has ordered all supermarkets and stores to remove the product from shelves. Customers should return it to the point of purchase or dispose of it safely.

This announcement follows a separate recall ofBegrobrand sweet frozen peas after possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious illness.
