Finca
Tres, a
small rural town in the Piedras Blancas
district of Osa canton, in Puntarenas
province, has received electricity for the
first time, the Rural Development
Institute (INDER) announced.
Power
now reaches 40 homes through the Public
Electricity in Rural Zones Program (PER).
The project involved installing one mile
of electrical wiring, 10 concrete poles,
and two transformers.
The total investment was about $340,000. INDER contributed $294,000, while the state-owned Electricity Institute (ICE) covered the remainder.
According to the
Public Services Regulatory Authority
(ARESEP), Costa Rica’s national grid now
supplies electricity to 99 percent of
the country. The new connection
is part of a broader national push to
modernize infrastructure in rural and
coastal regions. Similar upgrades were recently
completed in Limón Province. ICE, which manages
the country’s electricity and
telecommunications, continues to expand
access to reliable power. The INDER oversees
rural infrastructure development
nationwide.
