Costa Rican cyclist Luis Daniel Oses won the Vuelta Ciclista a Costa Rica on Sunday, claiming the top title in the country’s premier cycling event.

The race was held from Dec. 12 to 21 and covered multiple regions across Costa Rica. According to the Costa Rican Cycling Federation (FECOCI), this year marked the 59th edition of the Vuelta, the largest cycling competition in Central America.

Fifteen teams competed over 19 days, riding more than 66 miles. The race began in Heredia Province, traveled throughout the country and concluded in Alajuela Province.

Oses competed for the Economy Hyundai team and secured the championship with a total time of 29 hours and 34 minutes.

Costa Rican cyclist Alejandro Granados finished second with a time of 29 hours and 35 minutes. He raced for the Colono Bikestation Kölbi team. Third place went to Costa Rican rider Luis Aguilar, who completed the race in 29 hours and 38 minutes.

In addition to Costa Rican teams, the event included cyclists from Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, the United States, Belgium, the Netherlands and Guatemala.

Oses’ victory highlights Costa Rica’s growing presence in international sports.
In November, Costa Rica’s national team won more than 260 medals at the 12th Central American Games, which were held in Guatemala.

FECOCI is the national governing body for cycling in Costa Rica, overseeing road, BMX, track, and gravel disciplines, organizing national championships, managing national teams, and promoting grassroots cycling.
