English actor Clive Standen, best known for his role as Rollo on the History Channel’s Vikings (2013–2018), recently took a “Pura Vida” vacation in Costa Rica. According to Costa Rica’s General Directorate of Migration, Standen arrived at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in Alajuela on September 5. He was in the country as a special guest at Connecturday 2025, a comic book and TV series convention held September 6–7 at the Costa Rica Convention Center in Heredia province. But Standen didn’t limit his trip to the convention. Although he didn’t reveal the exact locations he visited in Costa Rica, he took the opportunity to explore the country’s lush landscapes and natural wonders. On social media, he shared photos and videos with his 1.2 million followers, showcasing breathtaking waterfalls, dense jungle vistas, and vibrant wildlife, including toucans, peacocks, multicolored hummingbirds, and even sloths.
Despite
the rainy season, which runs from May
through November, Standen said he was loving
every moment of his stay. Posting on
Instagram, he wrote: “Two rainy days in
Costa Rica, but Pura Vida!” His fans
were delighted to see him embracing the
country’s tropical charm.
Standen’s
career highlights include the 2012 Vertigo
Films feature Hammer of the Gods and his
iconic role as Rollo on Vikings. In 2021, he
teamed up with Vikings co-star Amy Bailey,
who played Kwenthrith, to co-host the
Vikcast podcast about the series. Beyond
acting, Standen is a spokesman for the Sea
Shepherd Conservation Society, a marine
conservation nonprofit based in San Juan
Island, Washington.
With
its lush jungles, exotic wildlife, and
breathtaking scenery, Costa Rica continues
to be a top
destination for travelers and celebrities
alike. Recently,
American actress and singer Anna Kendrick
celebrated her 40th birthday with a
tropical escape to the country.
Tourism
remains one of Costa Rica’s strongest
industries. From
January through August, over 2 million
travelers arrived in the country by air.
The
sector also generated more than $5.4
billion in foreign exchange earnings in
2024.
