American actress and singer Anna Kendrick marked her 40th birthday with a tropical getaway to Costa Rica.

According to Costa Rica’s General Directorate of Migration, Kendrick arrived on August 9, her birthday, at Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Guanacaste.

During her stay, Kendrick shared photos with her 24.7 million Instagram followers, posting snapshots of herself and friends enjoying the beaches of the Papagayo Peninsula.

The Oscar-nominated actress posted a gallery of her "Pura Vida" birthday images that featured her exploring the Pacific coast, watching sunsets, biking, surfing, playing with white-faced monkeys, and venturing into the jungle.

Kendrick has built a highly acclaimed career across film, television, and theater. She earned a Tony Award nomination for her Broadway debut in High Society (1998) and widespread recognition for her role in Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air (2009), which brought her nominations for an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, Critics’ Choice Award, and BAFTA Award.

Her film credits include more than 40 movies and 20 television projects, with standout roles in Twilight (2008), Up in the Air (2009), and the blockbuster musical comedy Pitch Perfect (2012).

Kendrick is the latest international star to vacation in Costa Rica, which continues to draw celebrities seeking its “Pura Vida” lifestyle. Recently, actress Megan Fox was spotted in the country with her fiancé, musician Machine Gun Kelly, and their newborn daughter.

Tourism remains one of Costa Rica’s largest industries. More than 1.4 million travelers arrived by air in the first half of this year, according to the Costa Rican Tourism Institute.

In 2024, the country welcomed over 2.6 million international air arrivals, a 7% increase from the previous year.

The sector also generated more than $5.4 billion in foreign exchange earnings in 2024, according to the Central Bank of Costa Rica.
