U.S.-based medical technology manufacturer Solesis has announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Costa Rica, expanding the company’s global production capacity.

Headquartered in Pennsylvania, Solesis specializes in the custom design, development and manufacturing of textile- and polymer-based healthcare solutions used by the medical device and biopharmaceutical industries.

According to the company, the Costa Rica facility will be its first site dedicated to producing implantable textile components, polymer-based devices and components, and single-use technologies.

Solesis also includes several affiliated companies, Secant Group, Polyzen, Charter Medical and SanaVita Medical, which collectively support the development of technologies and therapies aimed at next-generation patient care.

“Expanding into Costa Rica will significantly increase our global capacity, enabling us to rapidly expand and optimize our resources to provide our customers with comprehensive business continuity avenues that mitigate supply chain risks,” said Jeff Robertson, chief operating officer of Solesis. “Costa Rica is a global medical device hub and a prime location for expanding the production of our critical healthcare solutions. In fact, many of our customers already have established manufacturing operations in this region and we look forward to continued collaboration with them.”

The new facility is located in the Greenpark Free Trade Zone, the first industrial park and free trade zone in Alajuela province. The site includes cleanroom environments designed for the production of healthcare devices.

“This expansion is a significant milestone for Solesis and we are looking forward to being part of the San José community,” said Lindsay Walker, the company’s vice president of human resources.

The firm is actively hiring in Costa Rica for several positions, including quality control technicians, quality inspectors, finishing operators
and textile operators. Individuals interested in applying can visit the company’s careers website for more information

Solesis is among several U.S. companies expanding their presence in Costa Rica. Recently, Duracell Inc., a Chicago-based manufacturer of alkaline batteries, specialty cells and rechargeable products, also announced the launch of operations in San José.
