Social Security announced the new project for the Turrialba Hospital in Cartago Province, valued at $92 million.

According to Social Security, the hospital project is in the design phase of a set of seven buildings.

The hospital will have comfortable, modern, safe, and environmentally-friendly facilities, said Roberto Cervantes-Barrantes, manager of Social Security.

Also, it will have a capacity for 110 beds and 25 outpatient clinics, an emergency room with four clinics and 20 observation beds. In addition to offering more than 21 medical specialties.

According to the authorities, the hospital will also have areas that will adapt to the needs of the Cabécar indigenous population, which is an important community in the area.

The hospital will be built in the La Susanita district, on a 10-hectare site with 40,000 meters of construction, expected to be inaugurated in 2022.

This is the second new hospital project that Social Security announced recently.

Last week they announced a new hospital project valued at $228,589,654 for Puntarenas Province. Part of the cost will be financed with a loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, CABEI.

According to Social Security, this new hospital will replace the current Monsignor Sanabria Hospital and its construction is expected to start in late 2022.

“The new hospital in Puntarenas is the most ambitious project so far in the 21st century, it will be a modern, innovative and highly technological center," Cervantes - Barrantes said. "This is the model of the hospital of the future.”

According to the authorities, the 72,132 square meter hospital project is in the design phase and planned to be located in the Barranca District.

It will have the capacity to serve 316,000 people with 350 hospital beds. The facility will include new services to patients with cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

It will also provide the medical services of chemotherapy, cardiology, emergencies, surgeries, and delivery rooms among many others.
