Costa Rica staff The Canadian Ambassador in Costa Rica, James Kenneth Hill, is hospitalized in a private hospital in the Escazú District, San Jose Province, after suffering an accident during the weekend in a tourist area in Alajuela Province, confirmed the Red Cross on Tuesday. According to the Red Cross monitoring department, on Sunday the paramedics responded to the emergency call due to a fall suffered by the ambassador, while he was taking a walk in a tourist area in the Colonia de Toro Amarillo area in Río Cuarto, Alajuela Province. Red Cross paramedics and firefighters arrived at the scene where they found "the ambassador had fallen down a hill of approximately three meters high, due to a landslide caused by the rains," said the Red Cross in its report. After being rescued, the ambassador had to be transferred by helicopter of the Aerial Surveillance Service to the San Carlos Hospital. "The paramedic's report indicates that he maintained a stable health condition throughout the flight," the Red Cross said. However, the ambassador was transferred to the private hospital in San José where he is recovering. Hill has been an ambassador to Costa Rica since December 2017. It is expected that in the next few hours, the Canada embassy releases a statement on the current health status of the ambassador. ![]() The embassy has supported the country during the covid-19 emergency. In May, the Government of Canada donated $215,123 to Costa Rican medical workers for the purchase of medical supplies. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rodolfo Solano- Quirós thanked the Canadian Foreign Minister, François-Philippe Champagne, for the "timely and supportive donation." The minister also thanked the Canadian government for their cooperation in the repatriation of several Costa Ricans who lived in their northern country. The donation will be distributed among the health workers of the National Emergency Commission, Social Security and the General Directorate of Migration. According to the ministry, protective equipment will be purchased for Social Security workers, for workers in the mobile Hospital that was installed on the Nicaraguan border, and to give financial aid to civil organizations related to the defense of Human Rights.
