Happy 249th Birthday, America!

It’s that time of year again, when U.S. expats across Costa Rica come together to celebrate Independence Day with friends, food, fireworks, and fun.

While the American Colony Committee is no longer organizing the traditional Fourth of July Picnic, there are still plenty of awesome parties happening today to keep the red, white, and blue spirit alive. Check out some great spots around the country where you can join the celebration.

Rolling Thunder Saloon, in Jaco Beach, Puntarenas. Kick things off at 2 p.m. with a classic 4th of July party featuring all-American food and drinks, live music, and a big fireworks show after dark. Call 6290-0946 for more info.

Jardín de Poás, in Poás, Alajuela.  Enjoy a relaxed Independence Day celebration starting at 1 p.m. with a traditional American special menu, great music, and chill vibes. Want to make a day of it? Add on a Day Pass for pool access! Reservations: 8448-4318.

Vayu Retreat Villas, in Tres Ríos, Puntarenas. Celebrate freedom with good food, music, and good vibes! No cover charge, but they ask for a small deposit to secure your spot.  More info: 8352-0604.

Hemingway’s Beachfront Restaurant, in Potrero Beach, Guanacaste. Join the fun at 1 p.m. with an American-themed menu, live music, and fireworks to light up the night sky. Call 6457-5904 for details.

Marriott Hotel, in Belén, Heredia. Their Independence Power Dinner includes American food, drinks, live music, and a special kids’ menu. Reserve at 2298-0168.

Zi Lounge Restaurant, in Coco Beach, Guanacaste. Celebrate all day long with American eats, drink specials, and music from DJ Metra starting at 5 p.m. The fireworks show wraps up the evening around 9 p.m.

Tap House Restaurant, in Santa Ana, San José. Starting at noon, enjoy a laid-back Independence Lunch with an American-style menu, cold drinks, DJ tunes, and fun games.

Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort in Herradura Beach, Puntarenas. An Independence Day Dinner with American cuisine, cocktails, and a DJ starting at 6 p.m. Reservations: 8322-4620.

Marina Pez Vela, in Quepos Beach, Puntarenas. Don’t miss their annual 4th of July Oceansea Party! Expect tasty American food and drinks, live music, games, entertainment, and a fireworks finale.

Los Sueños Marina, in Herradura Beach, Puntarenas. Enjoy lunch or dinner American-style at the Marina. Then at 4:30 p.m., the Beach Club hosts a BBQ and cocktails, with fireworks to close out the night.
