The first Waldorf Astoria Hotel Brand in Costa Rica, a luxury oceanfront resort located in Penca Beach, Guanacaste is now accepting reservations for stays opening beginning on May 1, 2025, marking the brand's debut in the country.

According to Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc., the resort is one of the firm's most anticipated openings in the Caribbean and Latin America. It is slated to join the firm's portfolio of more than 280 hotels across the region.

"Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique uniquely blends Costa Rica's "Pura Vida" lifestyle with world-class sophistication and sincerely elegant service," said Hilton Holdings in its statement.

It is situated on a 300-foot cliffside peninsula in Penca Beach and designed by Mexico-based design firm Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos fuses modern architecture and amenities with tropical surroundings including 148 guest rooms and 40 suites. It features six dining outlets, including the Peacock Alley Bar brand.

"The resort will offer a thoughtfully curated wellness program that includes mindfulness practices, fitness routines, holistic therapies, and native rituals, so guests can nourish mind, body and soul," noted the hotel's firm. "The signature Waldorf Astoria Spa, which is inspired by the region's rich biodiversity, will provide a sanctuary for replenishment and rejuvenation, while multi-level pools, a state-of-the-art gym complete with a movement studio and outdoor yoga, complete the wellness amenities."

Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts is a luxury hotel and resort brand of Hilton Worldwide.  In 2020, it had over 45 locations with more than 20,000 rooms in 15 countries.

Tourism is a key sector of Costa Rica's economy. In 2024, the country welcomed over 2.6 million tourists by air, a 7% increase from 2023.

In 2024, Costa Rica achieved $5.4 billion in foreign exchange earnings from the tourism sector, according to data from the Central Bank of Costa Rica.
