The
British Embassy in San José is
inviting legally constituted
non-governmental, nonprofit, civil
society, and multilateral organizations to
submit proposals for short-term projects
aimed at preventing modern slavery and
human trafficking, while bolstering human
rights protection in Costa Rica.
The
embassy will support interventions up to
$95,000 per project, covering initiatives
from October
1, 2025, through March
31,
2026.
Priority will be given to proposals that safeguard the rights of marginalized communities and prevent human rights violations. As well as enhance protections for vulnerable groups such as women and girls, indigenous populations, and migrants. Also, to provide capacity-building support for human rights defenders.
Projects focusing primarily on gender and equality issues, including LGBTI+ rights, women's rights, or rights of persons with disabilities, are excluded, as they fall under separate funding streams. However, funding may not be used for communications or marketing, direct cash transfers or seed capital to beneficiaries, groceries or household supplies, or purchase or maintenance of capital or IT equipment. Proposals must be submitted in English before midnight Costa Rican time on September 16, 2025. For more information, those interested should contact the embassy by emailing Denise.Lewis@fcdo.gov.uk
