JetBlue Airways, the New York–based low-cost carrier, will launch three new nonstop routes between Boston and Costa Rica later this year, announced the Tourism Institute (ICT).

Starting in November, JetBlue will operate two weekly nonstop flights between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR) in Guanacaste. In December, the airline will add a third weekly flight, departing every Saturday.

The Boston–Guanacaste flights will leave Logan at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, with the Saturday service scheduled to depart at 9 a.m. All flights will be operated on Airbus A321 aircraft with seating for 160 passengers.

“JetBlue’s decision to expand service from Boston to Guanacaste is a clear demonstration of confidence in Costa Rica as a tourist destination,” said William Rodríguez, Costa Rica’s Minister of Tourism. “This increase strengthens our connection with the U.S. East Coast and will bring new opportunities to Guanacaste, generating jobs and social well-being in local communities.”

Details on fares and reservations will soon be available on JetBlue’s official website.

The expansion comes amid a broader push by U.S. airlines to increase service to Costa Rica. Just last week, Texas-based Southwest Airlines announced its first nonstop flight linking Tennessee with the country, marking a milestone in Costa Rica’s aviation history.

Tourism remains one of Costa Rica’s largest industries. More than 1.4 million travelers arrived by air in the first half of this year.

In 2024, the country welcomed over 2.6 million international air arrivals, a 7% increase from the previous year.

The sector also generated more than $5.4 billion in foreign exchange earnings in 2024.

The ICT is the government agency in charge of promoting tourism and supporting related infrastructure projects.
