United Airlines, one of the major airlines in the United States headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, has announced new nonstop routes between the U.S. and Costa Rica, announced the Tourism Institute.

The new route will be available in May 2025, between the Juan Santamarķa International Airport (SJO) located in Alajuela Province and the San Francisco International Airport (SFO), in the State of California.

The new daily flight on a B737 Max8 will depart from SFO at 12:45 a.m. PT and arrive at SJO at 7:15 a.m. CR time. Then, from SJO to SFO departs at 8:45 a.m. CR's time to arrive at SFO at 1:35 p.m. PT.

Additional information about the new flight schedules will be released on the airline's website.

"The increase in frequencies and destinations in the United States allows us to provide our customers with a diverse network of travel options," said Frederick Thome, United Airlines LA Sales Manager.

Recently, United announced daily additional nonstop flights between the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR) in Guanacaste, the Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and the George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), in Texas.

The United States remains the most popular nationality visiting Costa Rica. Authorities recently reported over 1 million tourists from the U.S. accounting for 62% of the total visitors.

As of August, SJO served approximately 4.3 million arriving and outgoing passengers, both tourists and residents.

The country reported a new tourism record reached in 2023, with more than 2,4 million travelers.

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), or Tourism Institute, is the government agency responsible for promoting tourism in Costa Rica.
