Air
Transat, one of the major airlines that
operate flights between Canada and Costa
Rica, announced an increase in the number
of flights offered in anticipation of the
upcoming North American summer season,
which is set to
begin in late June. Starting
in July, the airline based in
Montreal, Quebec will be
operating two extra weekly flights between
the Daniel Oduber
International Airport (LIR), also known
as Guanacaste Airport, and the
Montréal–Trudeau International Airport
(YUL). According
to the Institute of Tourism, passengers
would fly on an Airbus A321 with a
capacity of 200 travelers. Flight arrivals
at LIR are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Costa
Rican time. The flight departs from LIR to
YUL at 12:40 p.m. More information on the new flights will soon be enabled on Air Transat's website.
According
to the institute's estimates, over 242,000
Canadian tourists visited Costa Rica last
year. The country
reported a new tourism record reached
in 2023, with more than 2,4 million
travelers. Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in Costa Rica. Last week, representatives of eleven tourism companies participated in the IMEX Convention Tourism Fair in Germany.
