Michael Jordan, the iconic NBA star, has returned to Costa Rica for the second time this month to participate in the Triple Crown Billfish Tournament set to take place January 23–25 at Herradura Bay in Puntarenas Province.

The retired basketball legend arrived on Tuesday aboard his black-and-white Gulfstream private jet at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in Alajuela Province, according to records from the General Directorate of Migration.

This marks Jordan’s second visit to Costa Rica in January. Earlier this month, from January 6 to 12, the 61-year-old celebrity participated in a fishing tournament held at
Quepos Beach, Puntarenas.

Reports indicate that Jordan’s luxury yacht has been docked in Puntarenas since the beginning of the year, further fueling interest in his visits to the country.

Jordan, a six-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls, played 15 seasons in the league from 1984 to 2003. Widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, he helped popularize the NBA globally in the 1980s and 1990s.

He remains one of the most marketable athletes in history, endorsing brands such as Nike, Coca-Cola, Chevrolet, Gatorade, McDonald's, Wheaties, and Hanes. Forbes estimates his net worth at $3.5 billion as of 2024, making him the fourth-richest African American.

Jordan is the latest in a series of celebrities spotted vacationing in Costa Rica.
In December 2024, Israeli actress Gal Gadot, best known for playing Wonder Woman, and Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen also visited the "Pura Vida" country.

Also, Canadian singer Justin Bieber, his wife and model Hailey Bieber, and influencer Kendall Jenner shared photos of their Costa Rica vacations on social media.

Tourism is a key sector of Costa Rica's economy. The country welcomed over 2.6 million tourists by air in 2024, a 7% increase compared to 2023.
