Sherman Güity-Güity, a Tico athlete who won two gold medals, will be welcomed home on Monday, Sept. 9, with a parade.

On Saturday, Güity set new historical records by winning his second gold medal in the T64 200-meter sprint final at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Early last week, he won his first gold medal in the world games.

Güity participated in the T64 category, which includes athletes who compete in speed and have had a leg amputated.

In 2023, Güity won two gold medals at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix which was held in the United Arab Emirates.

In 2021, Sherman won a gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympic World Games.

The parade will start at 5 p.m. at
the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in Alajuela Province and end at the Avenida Escazú Shopping Center in Escazú Canton, San José, at 7 p.m.

Traffic officers will patrol parade routes, although authorities advise vehicle drivers and motorcycle riders to avoid crossing them wherever possible.

Costa Rica's Paralympic Team of eight competed in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Güity was the only athlete who won a medal; the rest were eliminated from their competitions.

In the case of the Costa Rican squad's participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics, it was cut short as all competitors were eliminated.

Paris 2024 is the 17th Summer Paralympic Games, an international multi-sport para-sports event governed by the International Paralympic Committee, which was held in Paris, France, from 28 August to 8 September 2024.
