Former First Lady Claudia Dobles-Camargo has been officially named the presidential candidate for the Citizen Agenda Coalition Party in Costa Rica’s upcoming February 2026 elections.

Dobles, the wife of former President Carlos Alvarado Quesada, received unanimous support from the party’s board, winning all 76 votes in favor of her candidacy. She served as Costa Rica’s First Lady from 2018 to 2022.

The Citizen Agenda Coalition Party is a new political force formed through the merger of the Citizen Action Party (PAC), which brought Alvarado Quesada to power, and the National Democratic Agenda (ADN).

In her acceptance speech, Dobles pledged that her party would deliver solutions in critical areas, including public safety, the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking, attracting foreign investment, healthcare, and education.

A trained architect and urban planner, Dobles gained international recognition during her tenure as First Lady. In April 2019, Fortune magazine ranked her No. 15 on its list of the “World’s Greatest Leaders” for spearheading Costa Rica’s ambitious plan to achieve full decarbonization by 2050.

The PAC, one of the parties in the new coalition, governed Costa Rica for two consecutive terms, first under Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera (2014–2018) and later under Carlos Alvarado Quesada (2018–2022). The party identifies as social-democratic and progressive.

If elected, Dobles would become only the second woman to serve as President of Costa Rica, following Laura Chinchilla-Miranda, who governed from 2010 to 2014.
