Australian actor and film producer Chris Hemsworth, best known for portraying the superhero Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is vacationing in Costa Rica with his family.

According to Costa Rica's General Directorate of Migration, Hemsworth, his wife, Spanish model and actress Elsa Pataky, and their three children arrived in the country on Saturday, July 4, through Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Guanacaste Province. As of Tuesday, July 7, the family remained in Costa Rica.

Although the 42-year-old Hollywood star has not shared photos from his Costa Rica vacation with his more than 60 million social media followers, fans have posted images on Facebook and Instagram showing him visiting several tourist destinations in Guanacaste, including swimming and surfing with his family at Santa Teresa Beach on the Nicoya Peninsula.

The visit marks Hemsworth's second recorded trip to Costa Rica. He and Pataky previously spent a week vacationing in Guanacaste in 2014.


Hemsworth began his acting career with television roles in 2002 and has appeared in more than 30 films as of 2026.


He rose to international fame after starring as Thor in the 2011 Marvel film of the same name and reprised the role in multiple blockbuster sequels. His success helped make him one of the world's highest-paid actors. In 2019, Forbes ranked him among the world's highest-paid actors, estimating his annual earnings at $76 million.

Costa Rica continues to attract high-profile visitors from around the world, including celebrities and prominent U.S. political figures. Most recently, U.S. Representatives Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene vacationed in Guanacaste.

In May, Canadian actor Khobe Clarke, best known for his role as Beau Maxwell in the TV series Off Campus, spent a week vacationing in Costa Rica.

Earlier this April, billionaire Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez, visited Cocos Island.

Tourism continues to play a major role in the national economy. Costa Rica welcomed nearly 1.4 million air arrivals between January and May 2026. 

The country recorded more than 2.6 million air arrivals in 2025.
