Costa Rican athlete Rhiana Mora Saint Rius captured the gold medal in the women's 100-meter hurdles at the Ibero-American Athletics Championships held at the National Sports Village in Lima, Peru, according to the National Olympic Committee.

Mora, a native of the canton of Osa in Puntarenas Province, won the event with a time of 13.67 seconds, setting a new Costa Rican national record. The previous mark of 13.72 seconds had been held by Andrea Vargas Mena since 2014.

Brazil's Beatriz Camargo Monteiro claimed the silver medal with a time of 13.96 seconds, while Chile's Leonor Ferreiro Hurtado earned the bronze medal in 14.21 seconds.

Mora also won a bronze medal in the women's 100-meter sprint on Friday at the same championship, posting a time of 11.58 seconds.

The Ibero-American Athletics Championships is a biennial track-and-field competition that brings together athletes from 22 Ibero-American nations, along with several Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa. More than 381 athletes from 20 countries are participating in this year's event.

Mora's success adds to a growing list of achievements by Costa Rican athletes on the international stage. Recently, tennis player Jesse Flores-Knowles made history for Costa Rica by winning the M15 WIPHOLD International tournament on the ITF World Tennis Tour in Pretoria, South Africa.

In March, Costa Rican athlete Joshua Sósimo won the gold medal at the 2026 U.S. Open Taekwondo Championship, held at the Westgate Event Center in Las Vegas, in the U.S. State of Nevada.

The National Olympic Committee is the independent governing body responsible for supporting, preparing and selecting Costa Rican athletes to represent the country at the Olympic Games and other international competitions.
