The country’s first suspended glass bridge has opened at Treetopia Park, located near the Monteverde Cloud Forest in Puntarenas province.

According to the park, the bridge measures 42 meters (about 138 feet) in length and rises as high as 20 meters (66 feet) above the cloud forest floor.

The walking surface is made up of 54 transparent glass panels, each 20 millimeters thick, with a load capacity exceeding 1,000 kilograms per square meter.

The structure is supported by two main cables, each about 1 inch in diameter, and it weighs approximately three tons, excluding towers and anchoring systems.

Park officials said the bridge was built using stainless steel and structural glass designed to withstand the region’s heavy rainfall and humid climate.

The company said the project cost about $400,000 and was developed by Treetopia Park’s in-house team of experts.

The glass bridge is part of the park’s Sky Walk tour and is included in the standard admission at no additional cost.

In addition to the new attraction, the park offers a range of activities, including a cable car for panoramic ascents, a canopy tour, a suspended bicycle circuit on cables, and the longest hanging bridge in Monteverde, which spans 236 meters (774 feet).

Tickets for visitors interested in crossing the bridge are available through the park’s website.

Monteverde canton is located in the Tilarán mountain range in Puntarenas province and is one of the country’s leading ecotourism destinations. The area is best known for the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, home to a wide variety of wildlife, including birds, reptiles and mammals such as marsupials, monkeys, agoutis, wild cats, wild pigs, deer and tapirs.
