Hotels across Costa Rica are reporting strong occupancy levels for the year-end holiday period, according to a new survey by the Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels (CCH).

The survey covers the week from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Eve and shows hotel occupancy has already reached 69%, with projections indicating it will climb to 77% by the end of the holiday season.

“This end-of-year period is an ideal opportunity for both domestic and international tourists to enjoy Costa Rica’s broad and diverse hotel offerings,” said Flora Ayub, executive director of the chamber. She cited the country’s hospitality, service quality and natural attractions as key draws.

Regionally, the northern zone of Alajuela Province recorded the highest occupancy rate at 92%, followed by Guanacaste at 88%. Hotels along the Central Pacific Coast reported 73% occupancy.

Other regions are also seeing solid performance. The Caribbean Coast reported a 71% occupancy rate, followed by the southern Pacific Coast at 70% and the Central Valley at 68%.

By hotel category, mountain hotels posted the highest occupancy at 82%, followed by beach hotels at 80% and city hotels at 65%.

All-inclusive properties led all segments, reaching an occupancy rate of 94%, the chamber said.

The survey found that 51% of hotels expect occupancy levels similar to those recorded in the same period of the 2024–2025 season.

As of September 2025, more than 2.2 million travelers arrived in Costa Rica by air overall.

In 2024, the country welcomed over 2.6 million international air arrivals, a 7% increase from the previous year.

The sector also generated more than $5.4 billion in foreign exchange earnings in 2024.
