Daniel
Oduber-Quirós International Airport (LIR) in
Liberia, Guanacaste Province, has opened a
new VIP Pura Lounge as part of ongoing
efforts to enhance passenger services and
expand the airport's capacity, airport
operator Coriport announced.
The
new 354-square-meter (3,810-square-foot)
lounge required a $1.4 million investment,
fully funded through the airport's budget,
according to Coriport.
Located across from Gate 8, the VIP Pura Lounge overlooks the airport apron and offers panoramic views of arriving and departing aircraft.
The
lounge features comfortable seating areas,
showers, semi-private work and relaxation
spaces, high-speed internet access,
televisions and ambient music. Guests also
have access to breakfast and lunch
service, as well as a beverage station
offering coffee and alcoholic drinks.
Access
is available to members of the Priority
Pass and LoungeKey travel programs. Other
travelers may purchase a day pass for $45.
The VIP Pura Lounge is part of a series of recent improvements at the airport. Authorities recently announced an expansion project designed to increase the airport's capacity to accommodate continued growth in air travel. The project includes four additional parking positions for executive jets and two new aircraft parking areas.
The
expansion comes as passenger traffic
continues to rise. Through June 2026,
the Guanacaste airport welcomed more
than 608,000 travelers.
Guanacaste
Province continues to attract high-profile
visitors from around the world, including
celebrities and prominent U.S. political
figures. Most recently, Kai
Trump, the eldest granddaughter of
U.S. President Donald Trump, visited
Costa Rica's Pacific Coast in
Guanacaste.
Tourism
remains one of Costa Rica's most important
economic sectors. More than 1.6
million travelers arrived in the
country by air during the first half
of 2026,
underscoring the industry's continued role
as a major contributor to the national
economy.
In 2025, Costa Rica
welcomed more than 2.6 million air
travelers.
The
tourism industry also reached a
significant economic milestone during the
first quarter of 2026, generating more
than $2 billion in tourism revenue
for the first time in the country's
history.
