Costa Rica has lowered retail prices for several fuels, including diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the Public Services Regulatory Authority announced.

The adjustment follows a request from the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (Recope), to bring local prices in line with changes in international fuel markets.

Aresep said the updated rates represent the final price modification of the year.

Updated prices:

  • Super Gasoline (RON 95): ₡643 per liter, down from ₡662, about $1.28 per liter or $4.86 per gallon.

  • Regular Gasoline (RON 91 / Plus 91): ₡635 per liter, down from ₡637, roughly $1.27 per liter or $4.80 per gallon.

  • Diesel: ₡557 per liter, down from ₡563, about $1.11 per liter or $4.21 per gallon.

  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), 25-pound cylinder: ₡6,823, down from ₡7,047, about $13.64 each.

The new prices took effect this week after being published in the official government bulletin, La Gaceta.

Aresep, a state regulatory agency, is responsible for setting public service rates in Costa Rica.

Recope, the state-owned oil company, manages the importation, distribution and sale of fuels.
