owner detained as
a suspect of murder By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The director of the Judicial Investigation Organization, OIJ, Wálter Espinoza, provided more details on Thursday about the arrest of a (Dutch citizen) man surnamed Bodaan, 68, as part of the investigation process for the death of a Costa Rican woman surnamed Cedeño. According to the brief information provided by the judicial agents, the crime happened on July 20, in a hotel room located in Quepos, Canton in Puntarenas Province. Bodaan is identified as the owner of the hotel by the judicial agents. According to Espinoza, as a result of the investigation and new data from the analyses that have been made in joint work with the Quepos Prosecutor's Office, Bodaan is allegedly the third suspect linked to the crime. "We continue working on the case; we have pending investigations and as the days go by we will strengthen and bring more light to this case," Espinoza said. According to the Public Ministry, in the progress of the investigation evidence and results were obtained from different expert opinions that are enough, in a range of high probability to link Bodaan as a suspect of the crime. According to the information provided by the judicial agents, the case began on Monday, July 20, when agents were alerted to the finding of the victim's body in a hotel room. The woman was traveling alone and it is alleged that she stayed at the hotel to take a vacation. That day, July 20, the victim was supposed to check-out of the hotel. But when she had not left the hotel workers went to her room. The woman did not respond, so workers opened the door. They found her body, said the agents in its statement. That same day, the judicial agents arrested the first suspect, a 32-year-old man of Nicaraguan nationality, surnamed Herrera- Martínez. He was an employee at the hotel. A judge ordered six months of pre-trial prison for the suspect of the crime. Then, on July 25, another suspect was arrested, a 36-year-old man of Costa Rican nationality, surnamed Miranda-Izquierdo. He was also staying at the same hotel on the day of the murder. The suspect also received an order from a judge to remain in pre-trial prison for six months. The third suspect detained on Thursday was taken to the cells of the Public Ministry where he was interrogated by the judicial agents and after that, they must wait until a judge orders the pre-trial measures against him. It is expected that today, the Public Ministry provides information on the pre-trial measures ordered for Bodaan, if there will be any. ------------------------------ Is traveling alone in Costa Rica a risk for a tourist?
