More changes in Orange Alert zones

Due to the increase in cases of people infected with covid-19 this week, the National Emergency Commission announced changes in the areas established as Orange Alert zones.

The following is the updated list of the cantons and districts declared in Orange Alert by the National Emergency Commission beginning Aug. 12.

• In San José Province: San José district (also known as San José downtown or Centro), Alajuelita, Aserrí, Curridabat, Escazú, Goicoechea, Montes de Oca, Puriscal, Santa Ana, Tibás and Desamparados (except the districts of San Cristobal and Frailes).

• In Alajuela Province: Alajuela district (also known as Alajuela downtown or Centro) and Naranjo.

• In Cartago Province: the district of La Unión

• In Heredia Province: Heredia district (also known as Heredia downtown or Centro), Belén, Flores, San Isidro, San Pablo, Santo Domingo, the districts of Mercedes, San Francisco and Ulloa.

• In Puntarenas province: the districts of Canoas, La Cuesta, Laurel and Parrita.

In these Orange Alert zones, the rules of Closing Phase and the Opening Phase apply on different dates in August.

Closing Phase ends on Friday, Aug. 21. For the rest of the month, the Opening Phase will be put in place.

During the Closing Phase period, the week-day driving hours in Orange Alert zones were extended from Monday to Friday, 5 a.m. at 9 p.m. After 9 p.m. vehicles are not allowed on the roads.

On Saturdays and Sundays, drivers are ALLOWED to be on the road between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. And after 7 p.m. vehicles are not allowed on the roads.

Vehicles ALLOWED on the road also depend on the last number of its plate. The following is a list of cars able to be on the road depending on their license plate number:

• On Monday, plates ending in 1 or 2.

• On Tuesday, plates ending in 3 or 4.

• On Wednesday, plates end at 5 or 6.

• On Thursday, plates ending at 7 or 8.

• On Friday plates, ending in 9 or 0.

• On Saturday, plate numbers ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.

• On Sunday, plates ending in numbers 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9.

Driving regulations will change during the Opening Phase, from Aug. 22 to Aug. 30. Vehicles NOT ALLOWED to be on the road are according to the last number of its plate are:

• On Monday, plates ending in 1 or 2.

• On Tuesday, plates ending in 3 or 4.

• On Wednesday, plates end at 5 or 6.

• On Thursday, plates ending at 7 or 8.

• On Friday, plates ending in 9 or 0.

• On Saturday, plate numbers ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.

• On Sunday, plates ending in numbers 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9.
