A "tica" surfer (a term used for a native of Costa Rica)  Brisa Hennessy was eliminated from the 2025 World Surf Tour following her performance at the Margaret River Pro, part of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour, held Sunday in Margaret River, Western Australia.

Hennessy, originally from the Osa Peninsula, in Puntarenas, competed in Round of 16, Heat 3, where she scored 14.16 points, falling just short against American surfer Caitlin Simmers, who scored 14.50.

The result placed Hennessy 14th in the overall WSL Championship Tour rankings.

Despite her early exit, the 25-year-old surfer is expected to return to competition in 2026 as she aims to qualify for the next edition of the World Surf Games.

Hennessy represented Costa Rica at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she reached the women’s bronze medal final before being eliminated.

Born to U.S. citizens Katherine Malia Kobara of Hawaii and Michael James Hennessy of California, Brisa has become one of Costa Rica’s most prominent international athletes.

The 2025 WSL Championship Tour features stops in Hawaii, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, El Salvador, Australia, the United States, Brazil, South Africa, French Polynesia, and Fiji. The season runs from January 27 to September 4.

In other sporting competitions, Sherman Güity-Güity recently won two gold medals at the Cali Para Athletics Grand Prix in Cali, Colombia.
