The Tourism Institute (ICT) is actively promoting the country as a tourist destination at the Fitur International Tourism Fair, held in Madrid, Spain.

According to the institute, the fair is one of the most significant commercial events in the tourism sector, drawing nearly 9,000 firms from 150 countries.

At the event, the institute featured a kiosk where representatives from Costa Rican tourism companies formed alliances and encouraged Spanish visitors to choose Costa Rica as their travel destination.

"This fair helps Costa Rica remain in the minds of potential Spanish and European tourists," the institute said in its statement.

As part of its promotional strategy, the institute produced a video featuring a 3D-animated sloth as the main character, representing Costa Rican wildlife.

The video shows the sloth exploring iconic locations in Spain, including El Retiro Park, one of Madrid’s largest parks; Puerta del Sol, a historic gate from the 15th century; and the bustling Gran Vía street in the Spanish capital.

While exploring the streets of Madrid, the charming character invites locals to experience the relaxed and peaceful lifestyle that Costa Rica has to offer.

The "Pura Vida, Madrid" spot was created by the Newlink Spain advertising agency and is available on the Visit Costa Rica YouTube channel.

In 2024, Costa Rica welcomed more than 54,000 Spanish visitors by air, according to government data.

Tourism is a key sector of Costa Rica's economy. The country welcomed over 2.6 million tourists by air in 2024, a 7% increase compared to 2023.

Costa Rica's participation in the Fitur Fair is yet another approach to increasing tourism revenue. Recently, a fleet of 150 electric taxis featuring banners of Costa Rican flora and fauna is navigating the streets of Paris as part of a campaign by the institute.

The Tourism Institute (ICT) is the government agency responsible for promoting tourism in the country.
