The Tourism Institute, with representatives of 20 tourism companies, participated in the IMEX America Convention Tourism Fair that took place in Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, U.S.A.

According to IMEX organizers, the fair had about 3,000 tourism representatives from 180 countries.

The Costa Rica booth was represented by 20 tourism companies such as Centro de Convenciones de Costa Rica, Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Península Papagayo, Memorable Incentives DMC, W Costa Rica - Reserva Conchal, CR MAGIC DMC, Real Intercontinental Hotel, Premio DMC, Radisson Hotel, Costa Rica DMC, Marriott Hotels, Swiss Travel, San Bada Hotel, Galia DMC, Hacienda Guachipelin Hotel, TE DMC by Travel Excellence, JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa, Amstar DMC, El Mangroove, Autograph Collection, Dynamic DMC and The Westin Reserva Conchal.

Costa Rica stands out as a destination for conferences due to several advantages such as air connections, a strategic location, unforgettable experiences, a robust health system, an excellent tourist platform, good infrastructure for holding events, a high level of education and the diversity of activities that can be done in the country among others, said the institute in its statement.

In the country, the conference industry represents 22% of tourism worldwide. Tourists who come to participate in conventions typically have a higher income and spend 3 to 4 times more than a traditional tourist, the institute said.

Participation in the IMEX fair is one of many Costa Rica's strategies to increase tourism. As part of a program to promote wheelchair-accessible tourism, the Tourism Institute financed the travel of four U.S. influencers to various tourist attractions around the country this week.

Last week, the institute participated in the IFTM Top Resa Tourism Fair to attract more French tourists.

Costa Rica's tourism industry is a significant contributor to its economy. As of June, over 1.3 million tourists have visited the country.   Of these about 793,000 tourists from the U.S., which is equivalent to 59% of the total number of visitors.

Last year, approximately 2.3 million tourists traveled to the country.  Of these more than 1,2 million from the U.S., which is equivalent to 53% of the total number of visitors.
