As part of a program to promote wheelchair-accessible tourism, the Tourism Institute financed the travel of four U.S. influencers to various tourist attractions around the country.

In the country, accessible travel influencers Kelcie Millet, Kevin Ortiz, Kirk Williams, and Kerry Peterson published photos and videos on social media of their excursions to wheelchair-accessible tourism locations.

They visited places such as the Poás VolcanoArenal Volcano, the cantons of Sarchí and La Fortuna, all of these in Alajuela Province. As well as Jaco Beach in Puntarenas Province, among many other tourist destinations.

The institute's purpose was for them to share their Costa Rica experiences with their followers, reaching over 250,000 people.

The goal of the advertising campaign is "to demonstrate the improvement and advances in the offer of accessible tourism in Costa Rica in different areas of the country, as well as in services such as lodging, transportation, tours, beaches, and conservation areas with accessibility," the institute said in its statement.

The advertising campaign is part of an agreement between the Institute and the group Wheels the World, which is a travel service that caters to visitors in wheelchairs or with other mobility disabilities.

The sponsoring of U.S. influencers is one of many Costa Rica's strategies to increase tourism. This week, the institute with representatives of 20 tourism companies participated in the IMEX America tourism fair that took place in Las Vegas, U.S.A.

Costa Rica's tourism industry is a significant contributor to its economy. As of June, over 1.3 million tourists have visited the country.

Last year, approximately 2.3 million tourists traveled to the country, which is one million more than the number of visitors in 2021.
