Costa Rica's Tourism Institute is promoting the country as a tourist destination at the Fitur International Tourism Fair, held in Madrid, Spain.

According to the institute, the fair is one of the most important commercial events in the tourist sector, attracting nearly 9,000 firms from 150 countries.

The institute featured a kiosk where representatives from Costa Rican tourism companies were forming alliances and recruiting Spanish visitors.

"This fair helps Costa Rica be present in the minds of potential Spanish and European tourists," stated Carolina Trejos, the institute's marketing director.

Costa Rica records show that in 2023, more than 53,000 Spaniards visited the country by air.

Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in Costa Rica.  The country reported a new tourism record reached in 2023, with more than 2,4 million travelers visiting the country by air.

In 2022, about 2.3 million tourists visited Costa Rica, which represents one million more visitors than in 2021.
