The Tourism Institute seeks to attract more French tourists by attending the IFTM Tourism Fair this week in Paris, France.

According to the Institute statement, IFTM is one of Europe's largest travel and tourism tradeshows.

As part of the promotion effort, advertising banners and giant screens with photos of Costa Rica's flora and wildlife were installed at the Paris Montparnasse, Paris Nord, Paris Lyon, and Paris St Lazare train stations.

The goal of the advertising campaign is to present videos of Costa Rican tourist sites to train station passengers since these locations provide regional, national, and international transit connections that will be viewed by thousands.

The Institute figures show that between January and August, around 54,000 French visitors entered by air, representing a 10% increase over the same period in 2023.

Participation of Costa Rica in the Paris fair is one of many strategies developed by the institute to boost tourism. Recently, about 30 Canadian tourism professionals attended workshops to improve Costa Rica's image and promote the country as a top vacation destination in important worldwide markets such as Canada.

Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in Costa Rica. So far this year, over 1.7 million tourists arrived in the country via air, representing a 13.5% increase over the same period in 2023.

The country reported a new tourism record reached in 2023, with more than 2,4 million travelers.

The Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), or Tourism Institute, is the government agency responsible for promoting tourism in Costa Rica.
