Approximately 30 Canadian tourism professionals traveled to Costa Rica to attend workshops offered by the Proimagen Costa Rica Association. Proimagen was engaged by the Institute of Tourism and includes representatives from hotels, tour operators, transportation, amusement parks and travel agencies. According to the institute, the firm agreement aims to improve Costa Rica's image and promote the country as a top vacation destination in important worldwide markets such as Canada. Canadian specialists are devising strategies to draw more Canadian visitors, who represent the second most significant tourism market in North America. According to Christian Doņas, CEO of Proimagen, most Canadian travel specialists currently promote Costa Rica in their portfolios.
They
are representatives from tourist
agencies located in Toronto,
Vancouver, Ottawa, Edmonton, Victoria,
and Calgary. Canadians
visit Costa Rica usually between
November and April. Travelers are
mostly interested in natural
activities such as touring beaches,
small villages, and national parks.
They stay for an average of 14.9
nights with an average daily spend of
$202 per person.
According
to authorities, Canadians like Costa
Rica's rich flora and fauna, tourism
activities and friendly citizens. Tourism
is one of the most important economic
sectors in Costa Rica. So far this year,
over 1.7 million tourists arrived in
the country via air, representing a
13.5% increase over the same period
in 2023. The
institute has launched many
international advertising campaigns to
encourage visitors. Recently, Costa
Rica held a trade mission in Mexico
to market the country as a top
destination. The country
reported a new tourism record
reached in 2023, with more than 2,4
million travelers.
