The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) announced that Tambor Ferry service across Nicoya Gulf, between Puntarenas and Paquera beaches, has resumed.

A makeshift, prefabricated truss bridge was installed on the dock in Paquera Beach to allow the ship to continue anchoring after colliding with a section of the port structure about three weeks ago.

During the repairs, ship services to Paquera were suspended, forcing tourists to choose between continuing their journey by road or taking the second ferry route to Naranjo Beach on the Nicoya Peninsula.

"We are very pleased to be able to resume the ferry service that is widely used not only by residents and tourists who visit this area but also because it is a key means of transportation at times when repairs are being made to the bridge over the Tempisque River, which remains closed to traffic," said Zeledón, the vice minister for MOPT.

Due to the closure of the Amistad Bridge across the Tempisque River in Guanacaste Province, officials have implemented a free boating service.

The bridge was closed this month for rehabilitation work, which includes restoring the supports at the bases, replacing the segments that connect the asphalt slabs and repairing the towers' top levels.

Taiwan government constructed and paid for Amistad Bridge, as a symbol of friendship between the two countries in 2003. However, in 2007, former President Óscar Arias severed relations with Taiwan and shifted focus to China.
