A type of portable, prefabricated truss bridge will be installed at the Gulf of Nicoya  Tambor Ferry dock in Paquera Beach, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) announced.

Last week, the ferry discontinued trip services across Nicoya Gulf, between the beaches of Puntarenas and Paquera, after the ship collided with a section of the dock structure.

Allegedly, the ferry captain lost control of the ship and was unable to avoid colliding with the dock structure.

According to officials, the bridge will replace the destroyed docking zone, allowing passengers to exit and board again in May.

To prevent ferry client delays, the second route available to the Nicoya Peninsula, specifically between Puntarenas Port and Naranjo Beach, is to continue operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

To take the Tambor Ferry, drivers have first to take Route 27, which connects the provinces of San José and Puntarenas, before taking the ship from Puntarenas to Naranjo Beach. The trip takes around one hour.

Due to the closure of La Amistad Bridge, which is the primary means of accessing the north Pacific Coast, the ferry service is one of the alternative routes to Guanacaste Province.

The Amistad bridge was closed on Monday, April 1, for rehabilitation work, which includes restoring the supports at the bases, replacing the segments that connect the asphalt slabs and repairing the towers' top levels.
