A type of portable, prefabricated truss bridge will be installed at the Gulf of Nicoya Tambor Ferry dock in Paquera Beach, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) announced.
Last week, the ferry discontinued trip services across Nicoya Gulf, between the beaches of Puntarenas and Paquera, after the ship collided with a section of the dock structure.
According to officials, the bridge will replace the destroyed docking zone, allowing passengers to exit and board again in May.
To take the
Tambor Ferry, drivers have first to take
Route 27, which connects the provinces
of San José and Puntarenas, before
taking the ship from Puntarenas to
Naranjo Beach. The trip takes around one
hour. The Amistad
bridge was closed on Monday, April 1,
for rehabilitation work, which includes
restoring the supports at the bases,
replacing the segments that connect the
asphalt slabs and repairing the towers'
top levels. What should Costa Rica do to improve the Nicoya Gulf ferry service? We would like to know your thoughts on this story. Send your comments to news@amcostarica.com
