Boston Scientific, the Massachusetts-based medical device manufacturer, is expanding its footprint in Costa Rica with the launch of a new Global Hub in the America Free Zone in Heredia province.

The center will integrate research and development (R&D) with shared services teams, including design, packaging engineering, project management, regulatory and clinical affairs, finance, human resources, and IT.

The expansion is expected to create additional jobs over the next year, providing a boost to Costa Rica’s economy. Boston Scientific said the move reflects its long-term commitment to the country, where it has operated for more than two decades. The company pointed to Costa Rica’s skilled workforce and culture of innovation as key reasons for its continued investment.

“For over two decades, the talent, innovation, and commitment of our team in Costa Rica have enabled us to serve more patients and support the company's growth, said Brad Sorenson, Executive Vice President of Global Operations.Consolidating our global services and R&D operations at this Global Center will help increase efficiency and innovation to support our mission of improving patient health worldwide.”

Boston Scientific is actively recruiting for technical, administrative, and leadership roles across departments such as R&D, IT, human resources, and finance. Job seekers can apply through the company’s careers website.

The new Global Hub adds to Boston
Scientific’s existing presence in Costa Rica, where it has been operating for 21 years. The company already runs three manufacturing plants in Heredia, Alajuela, and Cartago, along with a commercial office in San José.

The announcement comes as other U.S. companies also expand in Costa Rica. FedEx, headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., recently marked its 25th anniversary in the country by expanding its operations center.

Foreign investment in Costa Rica remains steady, though employment challenges persist. According to the National Employment Survey (INEC), the unemployment rate reached 6.7% between May and July 2025, leaving more than 153,000 people out of work. Men accounted for about 55% of that total, or roughly 85,000 individuals.
