Social
Security (CCSS) has officially opened
the Monsignor
Victor Manuel Sanabria Martinez
public hospital in Puntarenas Province.
Officials
said the new facility will offer
high-quality health services to more than
350,000 residents
in the region.
Last
week, the hospital began transferring 75
patients from the previous building,
including those from the surgery,
pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics, and
neonatology units.
The new hospital will replace the old structure that had been severely affected by the Nicoya earthquake in 2015 and will expand its care capacity with 300 hospital beds and 32 neonatology beds, as well as 64 consulting rooms and 14 operating rooms. It will also enable the first semi-automated medicine dispensing service in the country. The cost of the project is $225 million, of which the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) financed $130.4 million and Social Security covered the remaining amount. According to CABEI, funds came from the "Hospital Infrastructure and Equipment Renovation Program" approved for $270 million for Costa Rica, which was also used to build and equip new medical towers at La Anexión Hospital in Guanacaste Province and the Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia Hospital in San José Province. The Social Security (CCSS) is the state-owned organization in charge of the country's public health sector.
