Investigators said they found more than 3 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside several rolls wrapped in clear plastic and aluminum foil. The packages had been made to resemble rolls of fax paper, authorities said.

Jouzapas was taken into custody and transferred to holding cells at the Prosecutor’s Office in Alajuela, where he is expected to be questioned by agents from the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ).

He must remain in custody while a judge determines whether to impose pretrial measures in the case. He is being investigated as a suspect in drug trafficking.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said they are withholding additional details. For now, only the suspect’s relatives may request information about the case.

The OIJ has urged the public to report suspected drug trafficking. Confidential tips can be submitted through the 10-digit hotline at 800-8000-645 or the short code 1176. Bilingual agents are available in English and Spanish.

The OIJ, a division of Costa Rica’s Supreme Court of Justice, oversees criminal investigations and has full police authority nationwide.

The MSP is Costa Rica’s national security agency responsible for citizen safety, maintaining public order and leading anti-crime efforts.

In related developments, Costa Rica, with assistance from the United States, carried out a large-scale deportation operation this week under the Costa Rica Deportation Assistance Pilot, or CDAP, removing 20 foreign nationals who had been convicted of crimes.
