Costa Rica is stepping up efforts to attract more visitors from Brazil and other key markets, as more than 20 Costa Rican tourism companies participated in the World Travel Market Latin America held at Expo Center Norte in Săo Paulo.

The companies attended the event with support from the Tourism Institute (ICT), the country’s tourism authority.

According to ICT, Costa Rican representatives held meetings with tourism entrepreneurs from across the region, including Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and the United States. The outreach is part of a strategy to increase tourism from those countries.

ICT statistics show that, as of March 2026, more than 43,000 tourists arrived in Costa Rica by air from South America. In 2025, more than 146,000 visitors from the region traveled to the country, authorities said.

At the WTM event, about 90% of participating tourism agencies were from Latin America. The fair drew nearly 900 tourism companies, 32,000 travel agents and 1,000 tourism operators from Brazil.

Costa Rica’s participation in WTM is part of a broader push to expand its international tourism presence. The country also took part in Seatrade Cruise Global 2026, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Florida, U.S.A.

Recently, Daniel Oduber Quirós-International Airport, also known as Guanacaste Airport (LIR), reported a 12% increase in passenger traffic during the first quarter of 2026.

In a related development, Costa Rica was recognized as the country where solo female travelers feel most secure, according to a report published by the BBC.

The country was also ranked the happiest in the Americas in the 2026 edition of the World Happiness Report.

Costa Rica’s tourism sector continues to grow. In 2025, the country recorded more than 2.6 million air arrivals.

The ICT is the government agency responsible for promoting Costa Rica’s tourism industry.
