American Airlines adds nonstop flights to Costa Rica

American Airlines, a renowned U.S. airline headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, inaugurated a new nonstop route between the U.S. and Costa Rica.



The extra nonstop flight is available on Saturdays between Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR), located in Guanacaste Province.


The flight on a Boeing 737, would provide travelers with a new route to the warmer-weather seaside location of Guanacaste.



The flight departs from LIR at 1 p.m. CR time to arrive at (PHL) at 7 p.m. ET.



From PHL, the flight departs at 8:25 a.m. ET to arrive at LIR at 12:44 p.m. CR time.

AA is one of many international airlines increasing the frequency of their flights to Costa Rica. Recently, United Airlines announced new nonstop routes between the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) and the San Francisco International Airport (SFO).



Last month, Guanacaste airport stopped commercial operations for runway repairs.



Recently, the airport announced an increase in tourist operations to 1.5 million arriving and departing passengers, including tourists and locals.



According to the Vinci group, the airport's management business headquartered in France, LIR is hosting 15 airlines operating flights to 23 international destinations.



Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in Costa Rica. As of July, over 1.7 million tourists arrived via air, representing a 13.5% increase over the same period in 2023.



The country reported a new tourism record reached in 2023, with more than 2,4 million travelers.
